Recently retired, veteran NBA player Terry Cummings has proved the point; consistency and constancy scores! One of only eight players in NBA history to play 18 years or more (Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Robert Parish, Moses Malone, James Edwards, Tree Rollins, Rick Mahorn, Danny Shayes, Herb Williams), Terry Cummings ranks 17th in NBA history in games played (1,183 career games). The 6-foot-9, 250-pound forward stands in 29th place in NBA history in points scored (19,460) and 22nd in field goals made (8,045).

The former DePaul University product averaged 23.7 points and 10.6 rebounds during his rookie season in 1982-83, making him one of only nine players over the last 20 years to average at least 20 points and 10 rebounds in his rookie season (Hakeem Olajuwon, Shaquille O'Neal, Alonzo Mourning, Tim Duncan, David Robinson, Elton Brand, Ralph Sampson, Clark Kellogg). In each of his first three NBA seasons, he averaged at least 20 points and nine rebounds, making him one of just six players in the last 20 years to accomplish this feat (Hakeem Olajuwon, Shaquille O'Neal, Alonzo Mourning, Tim Duncan, David Robinson). He earned NBA Rookie of the Year honors in 1982-83 with the San Diego Clippers, winning the vote over players such as James Worthy and Dominique Wilkins. Cummings was named to the All-NBA Second Team in 1985 and All-NBA Third Team in 1989. He was a member of the Eastern Conference All-Star team on two occasions (1985, 1989) during his stint with the Milwaukee Bucks. Averaged 20-plus points during a season on seven occasions, including four consecutive years from 1986-87 through 1989-90. Terry played for seven different clubs during his 18-year NBA career (San Diego, Milwaukee, San Antonio, Seattle, Philadelphia, New York, Golden State). He appeared in the playoffs in 13 of his 18 NBA seasons, with his team winning the division title in six of those years, and he finishes his playing career with averages of 16.4 points and 7.3 rebounds.

In addition to basketball, sports commentating, his ministry, music, and philanthropy, in his post as President of Cummings Entertainment Group, a full service entertainment company in operation since 1984, Terry has established a music-publishing library of over 180 songs and master recordings, and is developing concepts and scripts for books, television, and film. Under the CEG banner, he has produced and directed commercial projects for such companies as Pizza Hut and Coca Cola, among others, as well as executive produced videos and a television pilot. CEG has also been the home for his recording endeavors. Currently in talks with record labels, he looks forward to releasing his own project soon.

From the court to the field, Terry's fans enjoy him coming home to Chicago, where in May 2000 he conducting the 7th Inning Stretch for the Cubs. He kicked off the new millennium with a powerful vocal performance at the NBA All Star Concert performing with the Tower of Power Band (directed by Steve Cropper and featuring musical legend Narada Michael Walden). The never idle giant also released a holiday single in 1999 entitled "Starting to Feel Like Christmas" which, through the Warriors Foundation, helped generate proceeds for those in need. Lending his talents to various worthy causes, he was recorded on the all-star celebrity anthem "Wave To The World" to benefit the Sidney Paralympics, and on the "One Light" anthem with performers Dionne Warwick, Gladys Knight, Ziggy Marley, Little Richard, Kenny Rogers, and others, for Habitat for Humanity International. Additionally, feeding his love for acting, Terry had a small role in Spike Lee's feature "Love and Basketball." A gifted mentor, songwriter, singer, producer, actor, speaker, author, commentator, and athlete, Terry excels in the art of communication and business.

When he's not on the court, in the studio, or on the set, Terry can be found speaking, mentoring and ministering; encouraging kids and adults alike to achieve positive tangible results in their lives and discussing the importance of relationships, responsibility, and living a healthy lifestyle.

Terry is a natural leader and is credited with demonstrating this commitment on the court by aiding in the guidance and development of the younger players. An ordained Pentecostal Minister since the age of 16, Elder Terry Cummings preaches with a heart for mentorship and deliverance. Fulfilling requests to minister and teach worldwide, he brings a sound strength of spirit and prophecy that inspires and uplifts many. His faith in God and knowledge of His Word, along with his respect and compassion for himself and others, are the solid foundation of his strong character.

A graduate of Chicago's Carver High, Terry made his way out of the projects with the help of key family and friends who instilled in him a discipline of self-respect and a remembrance of the spirit within that leads him today. Learning how to positively utilize his strengths and talents are the cornerstones to his stability and success in all areas of his life. To give back to the community that raised him, Terry helped form Victory In Christ, a non-profit foundation that brings social, educational, health, athletic, and cultural opportunities to inner-city youth in Chicago. The VIC Terry Cummings Annual Basketball Camp has helped thousands of children in its sixteen years of operation and last year saw over 350 more youth participants. As with all that he does, Terry's commitment to youth and helping to raise their educational awareness remains steadfast.

A single father of three boys, Terry is devoted to using his fame and talents for guiding, mentoring, and teaching others to connect with their own spirit within.
